Beginning August 1, 2011, General Council and the Influence Conference will be well underway in Phoenix. Hundreds of thousands will be in attendance, while thousands more will be able to participate in what General Council has to offer at home.
General Council 2011 will be live streamed on the General Council website, launching on August 1 at 4 p.m. MST (6 p.m. CDT) and continuing throughout the week. The daily live-stream coverage of the 54th General Council will enable AG constituents around the world to participate in General Council events.
This year’s live stream will open with coverage of the Influence Conference, and will include General Council services and business sessions.
“Through the live stream, we want to make General Council accessible to those who won’t be in Phoenix,” says Tim Laffoon, AG digital communications coordinator. “Pastors who are unable to travel, missionaries around the world and people from our AG churches will be able to tune in and watch what’s happening in the services and business sessions.”
The broadcast will also include backstage interviews with speakers, man-on-the-street segments, Fine Arts Festival updates and on-set discussions with ministry leaders, which will air throughout each day. “These features will give people at home a real feel for what it’s like to experience Council first-hand,” says Laffoon.
In addition to the live stream, stories and features from The Council Today newspaper will be available on the website.
A GC2011 mobile app is also available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The app contains schedule and speaker information, daily news articles and updates and maps and diagrams of the exhibit hall, Phoenix Convention Center and the US Airways Center. The app also contains interactive maps of Phoenix hotels, restaurants and attractions to help General Council attendees navigate the Phoenix area. To access the app, visit your device’s App Store and search for “GC2011.”
All of the General Council live stream segments will be archived on AGTV for later viewing. For more information about General Council or to view the live stream, click here.
