Aplos Software, a web-based nonprofit software company, announced on June 26, 2017, that it has merged with Portalbuzz, a member management software company. The merged company, which will operate under the Aplos name, will focus on the development of a unified software platform that meets the front- and back-office needs of nonprofit organizations.
Aplos was founded by Tim Goetz in 2009 and focused originally on the creation of fund accounting software for nonprofits. Today, over 20,000 organizations in more than 100 countries use Aplos. Over the past five years, Aplos has expanded its platform to include specialized back-office features such as online donations, communications, donation tracking and a robust donor database, making it one of the nonprofit industry’s most popular solutions.
Portalbuzz was started in 2005 by Scott Smith, who also served for nine years as the Chief Technical Officer of Kiwanis International. Since its founding, Portalbuzz has built a reputation primarily within service clubs as a member management platform. The system’s capabilities include a dynamic web builder, member invoicing, event registration, and a member portal to manage groups and volunteer sign-ups.
Aplos and Portalbuzz plan to expedite the development of new product features and the integration of their systems, which customers can expect to see in the next few months. Portalbuzz customers are already experiencing the benefits of the merger, with the expanded availability of free support. The merger of Aplos and Portalbuzz comes on the heels of Aplos’s announcement of its Series A funding of $4 million one year ago.
“We love what Portalbuzz has been doing and believe that together we will really make easier the lives of people who are working in a nonprofit,” says Tim Goetz, CEO of Aplos. “Nonprofits want a one-stop solution that can flexibly meet their needs, and we think with the features of both Portalbuzz and Aplos in one place, we can be that solution for them.”
“I first met Scott while he was working with Kiwanis a few years ago, and I could tell we both cared about building trusted and affordable software for nonprofits,” continues Goetz. “There was a lot of potential to work together and I am excited that we can combine our efforts.”
“Using technology to help nonprofits has been a passion of mine for a long time,” says Portalbuzz CEO Smith, who will join the new Aplos entity as Vice President of Product. “I am excited for the future and how the merger between Portalbuzz and Aplos can provide a broader portfolio of online tools to make running a nonprofit easier.”
