Florida megachurch celebrates completion of new worship arena

Celebration Church in Jacksonville, FL, hosted a weeklong “Awakening Revival” gathering Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 in its state-of-the-art arena to celebrate the first-phase completion of the church building project.

Stovall Weems, founder and lead pastor, wanted to create an energy that is distinctive to arena-style worship facilities, but within a more intimate space. Alabama-based LIVE Design Group began the design process with schematic design development – completed in just eight days in LIVE’s creative suite – allowing the architects and acoustic designers to shape the room simultaneously, and considering both aesthetics and acoustics to produce the optimal room and seating configuration.

The 70,000-square-foot final project houses a worship arena with a seating plan for 2,750 worshippers and cutting-edge acoustical, lighting and A/V design.

In addition to the worship room, the church arena houses several high-tech worship venues for children, including a multipurpose space for youth, a café and a bookstore. Designed as phase one to a multiphase project, the $10-million church building allows for future worship spaces for youth and church administrative offices.

A team comprised of a lead design architect, production designer and project manager led the project completion within budget, even in the face of difficult economic times.
