New auto insurance company turns for-profit venture into social enterprise with Compassion International

0711IO-007COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 25, 2013) – “BeCause of Camilito,” a new auto insurance agency based in Bellingham, Wash., plans to give 100-percent of its profits to Compassion International. The auto insurance agency’s goal is to contribute $1 million to Compassion International by 2015, to help free children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

“Many children and families will be impacted by this noble, God-honoring commitment,” says Mark Hanlon, senior vice president of Compassion, USA.  “We are humbled and grateful for BeCause of Camilito’s trust and gift.”

When a person fills out a quote, they choose to donate to one of three of Compassion’s funds: Unsponsored Children — which provides educational opportunities, social development and more for children in Compassion’s program who haven’t been connected with a sponsor yet; Provide a Compassion Water of Life filtration system that can give an entire family a lifetime of safe, clean water; or the Highly Vulnerable Children fund — which meets the specific needs of individual children who have been through traumatic situations or are in danger of exploitation, abuse or discrimination. These funds provide food, shelter, clothing, medicine and an education to impoverished children registered in one of Compassion International’s programs.

“BeCause of Camilito gives everyone the opportunity to be a hero to a child,” says Dan Pritchett, co-founder of BeCause of Camilito and executive vice president of Logos Bible Software. “You’ve got to have insurance anyway, why not get it where you might be able to save money and help kids, too.”

The idea to turn a for-profit business venture into a social enterprise began after a life-changing trip to Colombia, where Pritchett was given the rare opportunity to meet the young boy he sponsored through Compassion International — Camilito. Pritchett was so moved by meeting Camilito and seeing the importance of Compassion International in the boy’s life that, upon returning home, he decided to donate all of the new agency’s profits to the international organization.

“It is noble when a company gives a portion of its profit to doing good,” says Hanlon. “Companies like BeCause of Fiona-118Camilito exemplify how philanthropic giving can make a global impact.”
